Homework for Week 3

Hello Parents & Students,

Welcome to Week 3.  This week is going to be very busy!  Students, you need to bring your diary to school everyday so you can update your parents each evening and help them keep in touch with what is happening at school.

All homework is due each Friday from Week 3 onwards as I have changed the homework requirements so if you are confused please email me or talk with me.  Homework should take between 15 - 30 minutes each night.  Parents, if it takes longer than this please contact me and I'll alter your child's programme.

Last week the class completed an Algebra pretest.  Each week I will send home an Algebra homework sheet to complete.  Parents, your child may sometimes need a little assistance from you.

Homework for Week 3

Reading each night:

1.  Beavers read 3 chapters of their novel & write a 5 sentence summary for each chapter at the back of their homework book.  Please date each summary.

2.  Spiders & Caterpillars read 4 chapters of their novel & write a 5+ sentence summary for each chapter at the back of their homework book.  Please date each summary.

Maths:

Every student who stays for maths in Rm 14 has an Algebra homework sheet.  We will mark these sheets each Friday.  Students in the Ants & Bookworms sheets are double sided, please just do the side that says worksheet - 29 & 30.

Spelling:

During week 1 the class had a spelling test.  I have marked these and all students should learn 10 words if they are working at list 3 or 20 words if they are working at list 4+.

Parents, if you feel these words are too easy please email me or leave a note in the diary and I'll send home a paper copy of the words in that list.  You can then test your child on all the words and they can learn the ones they got wrong and then move up to the next level.

Blog:

Students, leave a comment underneath this post to let me know you understand what your homework is for the week and also read and comment on the post about the Kapa Haka students performing for the All Blacks.  How many people can you spot from Isel House?

Have a great week,

Miss Klenner

The All Blacks Came to BIS!

Today two All Blacks came to B.I.S. to meet rugby players from local schools.  The B.I.S. Kapa Haka group welcomed them with an amazing, powerful Haka.  Isaac, Ollie & Josh participated with all their effort and energy.  It was a great performance boys!  You certainly made B.I.S. proud of you!

Hamish's trip to America

                     Hamish's trip to America

On June 1st my family went down to Nelson Airport.  We went on the four o'clock flight at night.   The flight took seventy minutes.  Our next flight was at eight thirty and it took twelve hours.  I watched t.v. for most of the time.  It felt like it took forever. When we landed we went through customs and all the security had guns and tazers!

Homework Week 2

Dear Parents & Students,

I wish to apologise for not posting this earlier.  All I can say is that I completely forgot to publish my homework entry!  I can't believe it slipped my mind but it certainly did!

Homework:

1. No spelling - we have nearly finished marking our test from last week.

2.  Read & complete summary.

Today each student received their novel.  The minimum expectation is that you will read at home 4 chapters a week and summary of each chapter at the back of their homework book.  The summary doesn't have to be long, 5+ sentences will be fine but if you would like to write more you are more than welcome.  Instead of starting each entry on a new page, you are to record the long date, underlining it in red pen & the chapter number and name (if it has one).  Then you write the summary.  Finally you rule off in red pen.  When you are ready to write the next summary you miss one line, write the long date, underlining it in red pen & the chapter number and name (if it has one) and write your summary.  You are welcome to create a small illustration for each chapter if you would like.  I'm very excited at the thought of reading your work.  Once you have finished this novel you may choose your next one but you will need to show it to me so I can record what it is.

3. Homework sheet - this is due on Friday.  I know you'll all manage to do this as you will have had two weeks to complete it.

4. Sign the blog & respectfully ask your parents to sign your diary before Friday.  Wouldn't it be amazing if everyone brought their signed diary to school?

Parents & students, if there are any problems with the homework, please talk to me about it and we will create a solution.

Tonight I started reading & marking your pretest reports that you wrote earlier today and I want you to know that I'm really impressed with the quality of work and expertise you have displayed in your writing.

Hope everyone has a fantastic week,

Miss Klenner

Horse (my very long and nerdy version)

The horse (Equus ferus caballus) is one of two extant subspecies of Equus ferus, or the wild horse. It is an odd-toed ungulate mammal belonging to the taxonomic family Equidae. The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi-toed creature into the large, single-toed animal of today. Humans began to domesticate horses around 4000 BC, and their domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BC. Horses in the subspecies caballus are domesticated, although some domesticated populations live in the wild as feral horses. These feral populations are not true wild horses, as this term is used to describe horses that have never been domesticated, such as the endangered Przewalski's horse, a separate subspecies, and the only remaining true wild horse. There is an extensive, specialized vocabulary used to describe equine-related concepts, covering everything from anatomy to life stages, size, colors, markings, breeds, locomotion, and behavior.
Horses' anatomy enables them to make use of speed to escape predators and they have a well-developed sense of balance and a strong fight-or-flight response. Related to this need to flee from predators in the wild is an unusual trait: horses are able to sleep both standing up and lying down. Female horses, called mares, carry their young for approximately 11 months, and a young horse, called a foal, can stand and run shortly following birth. Most domesticated horses begin training under saddle or in harness between the ages of two and four. They reach full adult development by age five, and have an average lifespan of between 25 and 30 years.
Horse breeds are loosely divided into three categories based on general temperament: spirited "hot bloods" with speed and endurance; "cold bloods", such as draft horses and some ponies, suitable for slow, heavy work; and "warmbloods", developed from crosses between hot bloods and cold bloods, often focusing on creating breeds for specific riding purposes, particularly in Europe. There are more than 300 breeds of horse in the world today, developed for many different uses.
Horses and humans interact in a wide variety of sport competitions and non-competitive recreational pursuits, as well as in working activities such as police work, agriculture, entertainment, and therapy. Horses were historically used in warfare, from which a wide variety of riding and driving techniques developed, using many different styles of equipment and methods of control.

Giant Birds

                                                                           Giant Birds

There is an eagle who lives in Texas in the middle of nowhere.  The eagle is big and you could get attacked but that would happen only if you're not careful; you might run into the birds.  I think that the eagles might be trying to protect their eggs in the nest.  Facts about the eagle.  The eagle is a really, great bird.  You should look about for eagles.  They are very awesome birds.   This bird is not found in N.Z.  So look out for them if you go to Texas!

anonymous writer here again

Hello it's the anonymous writer bring you a amazing storie. This week I am going to write you the history of apple.    Enjoy!

Apple was established on April 1, 1976, by 3 blokes called Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. But only Ronald Wayne created the first apple computer. It was designed to be a personal computer for the community. They called it the Apple I. It went on sale on July 1976 for $666.33.If you were to buy it today it would cost $2,732. Apple was incorporate in 1977 unfortunately without Ronald Wayne so he sold the apple I to Steve jobs and Steve wozniak. Then a man called mike markkual decided to donate $250,000 to the apple business.
April 16 1977 the Apple II was made it was first introduce at the first west coast computer fair. Nearly all the computer creators at the fair were amazed that the apple II did not have a cassette tape or a hard drive it had a 5 ¼ inch floppy drive. It was used as a hard drive or a storage device back then. A company called VisiCalc decided to create a program for the Apple II. It was designed to make the Apple II look like a better start up and to look more like a home office.
May 1977 Apple got more employees to work for the apple business. Apple Inc got bigger and better. Then the Apple III was created but the apple III didn't go on the market until late 1980. It was because the design got marked up and the computers weren't going well. When it went on the market it was a complete failure not much people bought it.
1978 Steve Jobs began working on the Lisa apple but he got pushed out of his job by the Lisa team due to infighting. Jobs took over then Jeff Raskin (the Macintosh team) decided to make the first Macintosh. A race broke out between them to see witch creation would go on the market first. The Lisa team one. 1983 The Lisa apple was the first personal computer sold to the public with a processor, but it was a commercial failure due to its high price tag and limited software titles.
1984 Apple next launched the Macintosh in to the market. Its debut announced that apples $1.5 million television commercial in was the most popular TV ad on TV 1984. The Macintosh sold very well but due to the limited amount of software they decided to introduce LaserWriter, the first PostScript laser printer and PageMaker. On an early desktop publishing package.
1989 Apple introduced the Macintosh Portable it was designed to be just as powerful as a desktop Macintosh, but weighed a bulky 7.5 kilograms with a 12-hour battery life. It was really good if you were traveling. The Macintosh Portable was a big hit
In 1991 Just after the Macintosh Portable the apple PowerBook 100 was born. It was the first apple laptop apple had made. It was really popular it was the best laptop on the market everyone was buying it. It had a better battery life more programs and a lot more portable.

Welcome back to school.  Its the last week of this term!  Wow!  Hasn't it gone quickly and wasn't camp fun?

This week we have 90 students from Christchurch South School visiting us and 11 people in Rm 14 have billets so there is no homework except for your camp research project.  This was meant to be finished before last week and needs to be handed into me by this Friday, the 27th of September so I can mark it over the holidays.

Have a great week,

Miss Klenner
