Excellence by Miss K.

Hello Viewer,

Our virtue at Broadgreen Intermediate this term is Excellence.  The students in Room 14 spent one period in the Media Suite today and had to create a display of their definition of Excellence.  Then they had to change the screen to a print preview, screen shoot their work and upload it onto the blog.  I hope you enjoy reading their ideas.  You are welcome to add your own ideas in the comments section below their posts.

Please check them out later this week as a few people haven't finished and so will post their ones later this week.

Have a fantastic evening,

Miss K.

Isel House Newsletter, Term 3

Term 3 Class Newsletter

Homework week 1, Term 3

Hi Room 14,

Welcome back to school.  I'm looking forward to this term, especially camp!  This week your homework is:

Read each night
Practice your Math-a-thon sheet each day (Tuesday - Friday) - our 'test' is Thursday 8th, August.
Spelling - I'll tell you your new spelling levels on Tuesday - just learn 10 words this week.  Lots of you have moved up spelling levels which is very exciting.  Obviously, your daily practice is working.  :-)
Blog - leave a comment at the end of this post to let me know you have read it & post a quick note about one interesting activity you did in the holidays.

This term you will be given heaps of notices; sports, topic, camp and Isel House notices.  Please make sure you give them to your parents and they read and sign them so you can return them to me quickly.  Thanks for your help with this.

Have a great week,

Miss K.

P.S. I wonder who might become our new Mystery ... people?

Media Suite

Media suite

At the moment our class is in the media suite, and at the moment we are typing on the media suite computers.

At the media suite we have to write about something so we decided the media suite would be a good topic to use.

We are going to write about what we are writing about. We are typing we are typing we are typing we are typing we are typing... It goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on.... It goes on and on ..... Ok I’m going to stop now ok I’m going to stop now.... And on and on....

Alright the media suite, it has 16 computers and weird funny shaped desks. The walls are blue and you can pin things on to them. We like going to the media suite ‘cause we can express our thoughts on pages, (just like we are now) and write nonsensical stories like this one about the media suite.

What we have learned from the media suite is that computers are very kind to you because they correct your mistakes and don't make a big kerfluffle about it. Also if you offend them, they would not go and give you an electric shock like an electric fence when you go and hit its incredibly smooth wire.

Learn to love your computer because it will always love you.

Dora and Boots

My Dream Holiday!!!!!

"Ooooohhhhh! mum do I have to get up I'm so comfortable in here!" I groaned. Mum ignored me. I sighed and reached over to my bedside cabinet fumbling around for the light switch. Finally my fingers grasped the little thing and golden light flooded the large room. Stiff and aching I tried to and failed to get out of bed. Despite having to get up early in the morning  I loved this life. Relaxing in a large house by a beach with golden sand and a magnificent sparkling ocean in a far away land I don't even know the name of.

At last I managed to get up. My head felt extremely groggy and I limped gingerly over to the plump armchair by desk before crashing down into it and letting my head loll back onto the head rest. Just as my eyes were closing the door creaked open and my personal assistant came stumbling into the room hefting a heavy breakfast tray piled high with scrambled eggs, fried eggs, sausages, bacon, french toast and glass's of milk and juice. "Put it on the desk please" I croaked before closing my eyes again. The assistant walked briskly over to the desk and placing it there before bowing his way out of the room.I squinted up at it. My tummy gave a low grumble. I reached out and grabbed a piece of greasy bacon with before quickly devouring it. I attacked the rest of the food tray, ate and drank my fill before standing up, getting dressed and then striding outside to my balcony. I leaned on the railing and gazed out to sea, then down to our private swimming pool. Best way to wake up and I jumped, twisting into a dive in mid air before slicing into the water. A fresh wave of energy surged through me and i swam up to the surface feeling like I've never been better. I paddled over to side before hoisting myself up and sitting on the edge. I grabbed a towel and started to try and dry myself but I soon gave. So I stood up and proceeded in ay awkward sort of run towards the beach. If there's one that dry's you better then anything else it's the sun on a hot summers day. I staggered over and slumped down into a chair, relaxing and closing my eyes, letting the sun dry me. This really was the life.

Science Fair :-)

SCIENCE FAIR :)

Everyday for about a week room 14 and the rest of the classes at B.I.S. were working on our Science Fair boards. There were many different ideas with the science boards. Once everyone had finished there science fair boards people from different classes came to pick up the boards and place them around the hall for everyone to see. Later that week a person from Nayland College came in to judge the boards.  After she had judged them, Isel went into the hall and someone had written up a form for us to find those boards that was on the form and answer the questions about the science boards.

                 The garden

The people that work in the garden are Bracken, Levi, Hamish, Travis and Daniel.  We do a lot of work in there like taking trash to the rubbish bin. The gardeners clean up the garden and we water the plants. Sometimes we have fun by planting new seeds and other times we let some people in the garden.  There are scraps in the worm farm.  We rake the dirt. If people throw there ball over the fence we threw it back. Travis is the head gardener.  We get a lot done in there.  We all do own part in the garden. I think the garden is a great place.

spiders!by spidey

        spiders!

they scare us. the fascinate us.    they help us understand how
nature invented insects.
they are spiders. spiders are spiders are arachnids, and can be found any where in the world.some kill their prey by poison, others by traps or stake outs.
some spiders have poison producing  glands in their body already, whilst others have to gain it by killing other spiders such as the daddy long legs.this is done by the white tail spider, pictured top left.                                  many people have a fear of spiders, called acrophobia, which is when primal instincts kick in to try and stop you getting killed by a spider. however, most of the time the spider in question is unable to hurt you, and is probably trying to get out of there as fast as possible.this is why i take the spiders side
when people say that spiders should get exterminated.

science fair

For the science fair Julia,Zoe,Jessica and Anna decided to do expanding lollies. One Thursday afternoon we all went to Julia's house to do  the experiment. On the way we stopped at Countdown and The Black Cat Dairy and got lollies. The lollies we got were carrots, spiders, snakes, sour gummy bears, coke bottle and gummy bears. We put the in the water and left them for 2 days. It turned out they disintegrated into nothing because Julia didn't stop touching them :0 For the 2nd test we left them for 1 day instead 2. It worked. We did our other science things such as the board, typing etc. After a few weeks we were finished. The boards got judged a couple days later. We got commended work. The science fair was fun but I am glad its not next year.

Week 10

Hi Rm 14,

Its less than 7 days until the school holidays start!  I'm guessing you are probably like me - looking forward to being able to chill out a little bit more than normal and perhaps even sleep in a bit longer in the mornings.

Last week we had some fantastic accomplishments.  First of all congratulations to the Isel House team for coming second place in all the House Points!  Congratulations to Finn & Ruben who came second place in their categories in the Science Fair &  Dan & Marcus who received a highly commended.  I had several teachers comment on how well Rm 14 had done!  This week you will have an opportunity to share your Science experiments with each other.  Congratulations to Dan for winning a place as Isel House's runner up speaker in the Isel House Speech Competitions.  Congratulations to Max for winning the Canteen's free lunch!  I wonder who will win this week's lunch?  I'm just about to mark your Asttle writing test - from what I've read, your work is looking very good as you incorporated the key features of an explanation despite the topic being a little tricky.

Your homework this week:
* Write your name at the end of this post
* Read something of your choice each night
* 10 - 15 minutes Study Ladder
* Finish your homework sheet - we will mark it on Friday
* Spelling - review for your test on Friday
* Blog - Either Wednesday or Thursday evening, post a positive comment on one of our posts.  Try to make a connection with your own experiences / learning.  I'll demonstrate this on Wednesday while in the media suite.

Remember to give me your permission slip for our movie; I'm looking forward to it as it should be fun!  P.E. will be on Monday, Wednesday & Friday if fine weather - remember to bring your sports uniform.

Have a great week,

Miss K.

Online Brainstorms!

Hi Rm 14,

This is a link to a very cool website that provides us with the ability to plan / brainstorm online.  What's more, we can screenshot our brainstorms & load them on the blog.  bubbl.us
On Wednesday, we will use this to brainstorm all of the learning that has taken place this term.

Homework for Week 9

Hi Rm 14,

What a crazy week you had last week finishing your Science Fair projects.  They look great and I'm looking forward to seeing them displayed in Nayland College's hall.  Well done to Jessica W & Dan who presented their competitive speeches to Isel House.  This took great courage and they sounded fantastic.
This week is back to normal, not so busy.  You will need your P.E. uniform on Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Your homework this week is:
1. Sign your name in the comments section of this post to go in the draw for a free Juicie or Moosie.
2. Complete your homework sheet - it will be marked on Friday.
3. Practice your spelling words - test on Friday.
4. Read something of your choice each evening.
5. Ask your parents to sign your diary each evening after you have worked on your homework.
6.  View & leave a comment on Broadgreen's Specialist Classes blog.  Make sure you sign your initials & Room 14 so the staff know who commented.

That's all for now,

See you all soon,

Miss K.
